The Town of Star is governed by a six-member team in which the Mayor works directly with the five-member Board of Commissioners to ensure that the town runs efficiently. The Mayor is elected on a two-year basis and each of the Commissioners serves a four-year term. The terms of the Commissioners are staggered to ensure a certain level of continuity in operations. Each of these six town officials are elected through a non-partisan process and the voting opportunity is extended to all residents in Star who are officially registered to vote through the Montgomery County Board of Elections. Town Board meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Star Municipal Building at 454 South Main Street and all citizens are invited to attend.

Fire Department: Fire Chief – J. Wesley Brown

The Star Fire Department consists of all volunteers and currently has twenty-three (23) active firemen. Our firemen take their volunteer jobs very seriously and have worked hard to obtain an ISO rating of 4, which is the lowest ISO rating in Montgomery County! This low rating keeps insurance rates for our homeowners at a lower cost.

Police Department: Police Chief – Tracy Phillips

The Star Police Department is located on South Main Street at the Star Municipal Building. Currently, there are four full-time officers and several auxiliary officers. Our police officers work hard to enforce the law to keep citizens safe and allow us to boast a very low crime rate.

Public Works: Director – J. Wesley Brown

Public works personnel provide a wide array of services for the town. These services include mowing and outdoor maintenance for the Park, the Renfro Ballfield, and other town properties, as well as maintenance of streets and our water and sewer system.
