Star shares official U.S. Postal Service designation as a Christmas Town honors with about a dozen other U.S. cities, but Star is the only one with a different cancellation every year, creating a high demand among collectors.  Artists compete to have their drawing selected as the winning design each year, with the submission deadline typically being in late September.  

Design requirements:

• The design must be no larger than 4 inches wide and 2 inches in height.
• The words “Star Station” Dec. __ (Year—4 digits) Star, NC 27356 must be on the drawing. The space after Dec. is for the date change.
• Send your design in by the deadline to Postmaster, P.O. Box 9998, Star NC 27356; or drop it off at the post office on Main Street.

From Dec. 1 through Dec. 31 patrons can bring their mail in to the Star Post Office for cancellation any time during window hours or use a special drop box after hours with the correct postage.
